Guitar Restoration Part 3

With the new components ordered, day 3 saw the beginning of the dismantling. It was fun to watch my son focus on this process as there is really nothing which can be harmed or damaged.

Using screw drivers and pliers was a highlight for him as he watched his sacred treasure systematically taken apart. Each piece separated, cataloged and carefully analysed as he was learning the fundamentals of the instruments construction in reverse.

We were able to salvage the neck, headstock, frets, nut, body and scratch-plate. Unfortunately most of the hardware was rusted, broken or missing key parts. These are the replacement components we have ordered and should arrive in a few weeks.
