Spray painting the body of this beast is time consuming. My son picked a cherry red colour which looks very striking. I sprayed first coat, waited for it to dry then sanded lightly back. He sprayed the next coat but really didn’t like it.

To ensure consistency, you need to spray, dry and sand. Each sand is done with a lighter grit sandpaper, usually until you get down to 400 grit to keep it smooth and remove any imperfections.

So several coats and several hours later, we have a nice clean coated body ready for laquer to give the body a nice gloss shell.
